Key Planning Policy Statements (PPSs) include:
  • PPS1 Planning Policy Statement 1: delivering sustainable development sets out the government's overarching planning policies on the delivery of sustainable development through the planning system
  • PPS3 Planning Policy Statement 3: Housing sets out the national planning policies for housing, which regional planning bodies and local authorities should take into account in developing regional spatial strategies and local development frameworks. Design -Better Places to Live (A companion guide to PPG3) sets out key principles of urban design
  • PPG17 Planning Policy Guidance 17: planning for open space, sport and recreation describes the policies needed to be taken into account by planning authorities in the preparation of regional spatial strategies and local development frameworks
