Town Centre Management EOITown centre managers and local authorities have the opportunity to submit an expression of interest to the ODPM's new town centre management initiative. The Cleaner Safer Greener Communities How to... programme has developed the initiative under the good practice guide, How to... Manage Town Centres. The initiative emphasises the importance of effective town centre management and partnership working to create and sustain the vitality and vibrancy of town centres. Working in 20-50 local areas in England with practitioners, the initiative will apply the principles outlined in the How to... guide. The main principles identified being: to be aware of the needs of the local area, develop local leadership, prepare a strategy and create successful partnerships. Those selected will find the project an important tool to respond to current challenges of the evening economy and recognising its potential, removing opportunities for danger and disorder and promoting positive social behaviour. The project will also develop approaches that demonstrate good practice in creating and sustaining cleaner, safer, greener public spaces. It will not provide additional funding to the local areas selected but will provide access to expertise and knowledge of what works elsewhere and enables advice in how action plans can be applied locally. Case studies will be developed which will track progress and capture good practice in the local areas. It will show how town centre management strategies and business-led partnerships are developed and support implementation of the How to...programme by providing examples, materials and practitioner advocates. A registration form for local areas to express interest in participation is available here. Related links: |
